Bring the ghat home this festival with the Figurine Divine, a red Madhubani Chhath Puja saree with the whole celebration painted by hand on its pallu. Surya Dev glows at the top, women with folded hands sit in prayer, and devotees stand in blue river water offering arghya, framed by banana trees, soop and daura offerings and festive hangings – the scenes every family knows from the evening and morning arghya.
The figures are painted in the Madhubani style of Mithila, with bold outlines and bright red, yellow, green and blue, and a geometric border frames the artwork. The rich red body keeps the look auspicious and festive.
Fabric: Cotton. Saree length: 5.5 metres, width: 43–45 inches. Blouse fabric: 1 metre, with minimal artwork on the sleeves and back.
Care: Dry clean only. Iron on the reverse side of the artwork. Hand painting may leave slight traces of colour – the mark of a truly handmade saree.
