This Chhath Puja painted saree tells the story of the walk to the ghat. On the pallu, women carry the daura of offerings on their heads, one holds a soop of fruits, and the procession moves towards a flowing river and the red rising sun – the moment of the morning arghya, painted entirely by hand.
The festive yellow body is scattered with small hand-painted kalash and diya motifs, and a wide Madhubani border in red, green and gold runs along both edges, framed by a fine red edge. The colours are rich but the design stays elegant, made for the ghat and for every celebration after it.
Available in cotton and silk. Saree length: 5.5 metres, width: 43–45 inches. Blouse fabric: 1 metre, with minimal artwork on the sleeves and back.
Care: Dry clean only. Iron on the reverse side of the artwork. Hand painting may leave slight traces of colour – the mark of a truly handmade saree.
